TEROC
The Tobacco Education and Research Oversight Committee (TEROC) is a legislatively mandated advisory committee charged with overseeing the use of Proposition 99 tobacco tax revenues for tobacco control and prevention education and for tobacco-related research. In performing this mandate, TEROC provides advice to the State Department of Public Health, the University of California, and the State Department of Education regarding the administration of the Proposition 99-funded programs. TEROC also publishes and periodically updates a state master plan for tobacco control and tobacco-related research, and makes recommendations to the State Legislature for improving Proposition 99-funded tobacco control and tobacco-related research efforts in California.
TEROC is composed of 13 members, who receive no salary but are paid for costs related to attending committee meetings. By law, the Governor appoints eight members, the Speaker of the Assembly appoints two, the Senate Rules Committee appoints two, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction appoints one.
