I&E Days

Register now: I&E Days 2013: May 6 & 7, 2013

You are cordially invited to attend the 2013 Capitol Information and Education (I&E) Days on May 6 & 7 in Sacramento. I&E Days are an exciting opportunity for you to provide critical information to legislators about the success and challenges of tobacco control programs locally and statewide.

Representatives from Prop. 99-funded programs (Local Lead Agencies, statewide projects, competitive grantees and local tobacco control coalitions) are invited to participate. Registration is now open; there is no registration fee for participating.

We will again organize under the banner of the Coalition to Protect All Californians from Tobacco (PACT). The PACT Coalition is a group of individuals from tobacco prevention organizations and public health agencies committed to reducing the impact of tobacco on Californians. The mission of the PACT Coalition is to educate local and state elected officials about the social, health and economic impact of tobacco and tobacco-related disease in California and to serve as a resource on local and statewide tobacco prevention issues.

The event will begin with optional caucus meetings starting at 3:00 pm (for information on caucus meetings, please see Caucus Meeting Information below). If you plan to attend a caucus meeting, please plan to arrive and meet with your teams in Sacramento no later than 3:00 pm.

The event will officially kick off at 5:30 pm on May 6 with an evening Meet & Greet to give you the chance to interact with legislators, staff and other advocates. On May 7, we will convene in a tent on the capitol grounds for educational visits with your legislators. Please plan your travel to allow you to participate the whole day from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm!

These visits are a great opportunity to increase visibility in the legislature for our work and an important step for you to build and/or maintain relationships with your elected state officials.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Erin Reynoso at the Center for Tobacco Policy and Organizing at 916.585.7661 or erin.reynoso [at] lung.org.

Note to all LLA’s: Travel costs have been budgeted in your workplans.

Caucus Meeting Information

A caucus is a group of legislators who have a common interest (LGBT, Rural, etc). Many of these are impacted by tobacco control. So it is important to meet with the staffer of these caucus and educate them about tobacco control and our work. If you are interested in attending a caucus meeting, please make sure to select which caucus meeting you wish to attend when registering for I&E Days.
