District Days

Mark your calendars for District Days September 20-24, 2010!

This year, we will have both a Newcomers call and Regional Coordination calls to assist you in coordinating and scheduling your meetings:

•    Newcomers Call: Thursday, August 5th, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

•    Regional Calls: Tuesday, August 24th and Wednesday, August 25th. (More details on these calls to come).

What is District Days? The goal of Local Legislative District Days is for tobacco control advocates across the state to meet with their legislators and educate them about of the all the work you are doing in their (and your) community. You’ll be part of a coordinated wave of information and education about life-saving tobacco control efforts around the state. This is also an opportunity to involve coalition members or key community leaders who were not able to come to Sacramento for a Capitol legislative visit in the spring. How does District Days work? You and your coalition handle the local coordination and scheduling. The Center will provide you with information on scheduling and holding district meetings (including template materials and strategic advice). In addition, there will be a technical assistance call to prepare you and your coalition members to make the most of this opportunity. These visits are an important step for you in building a strong, ongoing relationship with your elected state officials.
